Obituary for Jerome P. Kenny

PEORIA-Jerome P. “Romey” Kenny, 81, of Peoria, passed away at 3:24 a.m. on Saturday, January 16, 2010 at OSF Saint Clare Home in Peoria Heights. He was born on September 14, 1928 in Peoria to John C. and Ann Sheridan Kenny. He is survived by one sister, Nancy Norton of Decatur; two brothers, Marty (Betty) Kenny of West Peoria and Frank (Laura) Kenny of Peoria; numerous nieces and nephews and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Jack, Jim, Tom, and Jerry, and one sister, Mary Bailey. Hwas a graduate of Spalding Institute and Bradley University, including a Master's Degree from Bradley University. Romey was an Elementary School Teacher for 30 years for District 150, retiring in 1988. He taught at Blaine-Sumner and White School. He was a Korean War US Army veteran. During his lifetime, he taught how to laugh, to care, to give, and to love. He taught his students from the book, and everyone from the heart. He influenced more people than we will ever know, but he remained a humble man. He spent his life serving others, but not expecting to be served. He truly lived his faith. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church where a Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, January 19, 2010 with Msgr. Jason Gray and Rev. John J. Dietzen officiating. Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Monday at Wright & Salmon Mortuary with a Scripture Service at 7:45 p.m. Additional visitation will be 30 minutes before the Mass at the church. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in West Peoria. In lieu of flowers,memorial contributions may be made to National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Crohn’s Disease Foundation, or American Cancer Society. Tributes and condolences may be submitted to
