Obituary for Jeanne D. Wurtzinger
Peoria- Jeanne Wurtzinger, age 97, passed away at 7:29 PM on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home.
Born on May 4, 1920 in Watertown, Wisconsin, she was a daughter to Francis and Loretta Dolan Darcey. She married Robert Wurtzinger on December 29, 1951. He preceded her in death on July 20, 1994.
Jeanne earned her BS degree in Nutrition from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and completed an internship in Dietetics at Duke University Hospital. She earned a Masters degree in Human Services and Counseling from Bradley University. Jeanne’s employment in the practice of Dietetics included Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston Presbyterian-St. Lukes, Chicago and the Chicago American Newspaper.
As Director of Nutrition Services for the Peoria Health Department, she developed the first Nutrition Services Department. Jeanne retired in 1982 after 20 years of service. She was past President and a board member of the Central Illinois Dietetic Association, as well as a board member of the Illinois Dietetic Association. Jeanne received Distinguished Service Awards from the Illinois Association of Maternal and Child Health and the American Dietetics Association. She also was a member and served on the board of the Peoria Garden Club.
Jeanne lived in Peoria for many years. She and Bob were active in social groups and enjoyed the friendship of many.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2018 from 10:00 AM until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Father Thomas Taylor will officiate and burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
Memorials in Jeanne’s memory may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church.
