Jayne English, 77, of Peoria, unexpectedly passed away on Wednesday, November 30th, 2022.
Jayne was born September 9th, 1945 to James and Mariam Hutcheson. She married Owen English on October 7th, 1967 and they were blessed with 45 years of marriage. He preceded her in death in 2013.
Jayne is survived by her two children Anne (Scott) Schaumburg of West Peoria and Eric (Amber) of Peoria; her brothers Jim Hutscheson of Peoria and Merle (Barb) Pree of Bloomington and her brothers-in-law Barclay English of Peoria and Mike (Bette) English of Ohio; 7 loving grandchildren Ryan (Amber), Lauren, Cassidy, Abigail, Emma, Charlotte, Henry; and a great-granddaughter Quinn; as well as many nieces and nephews and their children.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Myron.
Jayne was raised in Gridley, Illinois and attended Gridley High School. She achieved her nursing degree at Methodist College of Nursing. Over her 45-year nursing career in both Central Illinois and Chicago, she worked at Methodist, OSF, St. Ann’s Church and private duty home care. She was compassionate and truly embodied the caring spirit of giving one’s self to serve and put others first.
When she was not caring for others she was serving members of the community. She gave countless hours of service while her children were growing up at St. Mark School and Parish. Jayne volunteered for many groups such as Cursillo and TEC. Along with her husband, she enjoyed serving on many TEC and wheat teams sharing their faith, love and wheat with the community. She lived a life of servitude and was always there for family, friends and anyone that needed love and support. Jayne was a caregiver and friend to her brother-in-law, Barclay. After retiring, she also spent countless hours volunteering at OSF Hospice, Kiwanis and South Side Mission.
Her truest joy in life was watching her children and grandchildren grow up. She was always there to celebrate their milestones and “Nana” never missed an opportunity to tell people how blessed she was. Whether it was a special occasion or a family get-together, Nana went above and beyond to make it special. She was able to celebrate her last Thanksgiving with her entire family, including her new great-granddaughter.
Jayne enjoyed spending time with her brother, Jim, traveling to Paris and attending Bradley Basketball games. She loved her sport teams, especially the Chicago Cubs, Notre Dame Football and Illinois Basketball.
Jayne was the greatest example of what it means to be a good friend. Some of her favorite memories was celebrating with her birthday club and she was always there as a second mother to their kids during tough times. Jayne’s many friends enjoyed her support which always came with a delicious meal including her homemade chicken and noodles, Jumer’s rolls and monster cookies. She always enjoyed spending time with her friends at the Knights of Columbus.
