Obituary for James T. Flanigon
James Tinen Flanigon, 80, of Peoria, IL, passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2022 in Round Rock, TX, due to complications from cancer.
James Tinen Flanigon was born in Peoria, IL, on August 17, 1941 to James S. Flanigon and Beatrice Tinen. He enjoyed growing up in Peoria with his sisters, Nancy Flanigon (Richard) Verkler and Kathleen Flanigon (Robert) Naab and his many friends. Shortly after attending Loras College he began work in insurance sales with the family business at Great Central Insurance, eventually establishing his own independent insurance agency. He proudly served in the Air National Guard of Illinois and Air Force Reserve from 1962 through 1968, at which time he was Honorably Discharged.
He went on to marry Helene Cicciarelli of Peoria and started a family with four sons: Jim (Michelene), Tom, Tim and Casey. He later married Salete Lima Flanigon and enjoyed a loving and lasting 30-year marriage where they shared much laughter and good times together.
Being a loving and dependable father was very important to Jim and he didn’t disappoint in that area. He created many fond memories for the entire family (thanks for the Idaho rafting trip Dad!) and spending time with his 5 grandchildren. He loved his family dearly and made everyone feel welcome in his presence.
Visitation will be at Wright & Salmon Mortuary, 2416 N North Street, Peoria, IL 61604 on Friday, June 17, 2022, from 5pm-7pm. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Philomena’s Catholic Church, 1000 West Albany Avenue, Peoria, IL 61604 on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at 11am, with a half hour prior visitation. Following mass, a burial will be held at Resurrection Mausoleum & Cemetery at 7519 N. Allen Rd., Peoria, IL 61614.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Philomena Catholic Church, James T. Flanigon Memorial Fund at: https://giving.parishsoft.com/app/giving/stphils.
