Obituary for James R. Goldsby

Peoria- James R. Goldsby, age 86, of Peoria, passed away peacefully at 12:35 PM on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 at his home.


Born August 22, 1936 in Springfield, IL, a son to Scott Goldsby and Evelyn Boehnke. James was raised and educated in Springfield graduating with the class of 1954. On April 7, 1956 he married Rita A. Sommer in Springfield and together they cherished 63 years until her passing on March 4, 2019. James honorably served in the United States Air Force from 1949 to 1968, and then again in 1981 until his retirement in 1991. James enjoyed all types of racing, was a true Chicago Bears football fan, and an avid golfer and bowler. He loved watching all things aeronautical, especially the Blue Angels. James was truly a handyman who could fix almost anything. Most importantly he cherished his family, and was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be deeply missed.


Survivors include four children: Cheryl (Michael) Roy of Peoria, Lori (Bill) Donlan of Peoria, Angela Karis of East Peoria, and Brian Goldsby of Peoria; 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.


James was preceded in death by his parents, wife Rita and daughter Michelle Goldsby in infancy.


Cremation rites have been accorded. A private graveside with military honors will be held at a later date.


Preferred memorials in James’s memory may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
