Obituary for James P. Knight
Peoria- James P Knight, age 86, passed away 3:42 AM Wednesday, July 12, 2017, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center.
Born March 17, 1931 in Peoria, a son of James O. and Kathryn (Brownscombe) Knight, he married Susan Jane Bertlshofer, October 2, 1954 in Burlington, IA. She passed September 29, 2016.
James is survived by four children; Jane (James) Hutchinson of O’Fallon, MO, James (Kathryn) Knight of Mesa, AZ, Patricia Isit (fiancé Steve Grant) of Bartonville, David (Molly) Knight of Peoria, four grandchildren; Matt and Jeff Hutchinson, and Tom and Bill Knight, one step-grandchild, Melanie Roberts, four great-grandchildren, one brother; Robert (Maryann) Knight of Peoria, and two sisters; Marilyn (Jerry) Donnelly of Michigan and Carole(Jim) Konitzer of IL.
James was a machinist for L.R. Nelson until his retirement and was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. James was also a longtime volunteer at the St. Vincent DePaul Society and Meals on Wheels. A lifelong Chicago Cubs fan, James was thrilled when the Cubs finally won the World Series in 2016 and loved talking baseball with his grandchildren. He was a great father and grandfather and attended as many events as he could to show his support for his children and grandchildren. His sense of humor and smile will be missed by everyone who knew him.
Visitation will be 2:00 – 4:00 PM, Sunday, July 16, 2017 at Wright & Salmon Mortuary with a scripture service at 4:00 PM. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM, Monday July 17, 2017 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with a half hour prior visitation. Fr. James Pallardy will officiate and burial will follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in West Peoria.
