Obituary for James L. Lasher

PEORIA-James L. Lasher, 80, of Sarasota, Florida and formerly of Peoria, was called into God’s hands at the Tidewell Hospice and Palliative Care House of Sarasota on Thanksgiving Day to remind us all to be thankful . James was born July 14, 1926 in Tell City, Indiana to Leonard and Lillian Turner Lasher. Surviving is his wife, Bonna L. Winemiller Lasher; one son, James L. Jr. (Laurie) Lasher of Peoria; three daughters, Nancy (Scott) Borho of Peoria, Deborah (Robert) Schmitt of Edwards and Brenda (John) Zamorski of Delafield, WI; 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; two brothers, George Robert Lasher of Arkansas and Myron Lasher of Texas; and three sisters, Mary Alice Gordon, Leone Craney and Judy Flick all of Indiana. He received his bachelor’s degree from Indiana University. James moved to Sarasota in 1986. He attended St. Thomas Moore Church. He was a member of the V.F.W., the Knights of Columbus, the Peoria Country Club and the T. P. C.-Prestancia, C. L. U., C. H. F. C. and a life member of the Million-Dollar Round Table. He was in the 82nd Airborne Division of the Army during World War II. He as raised in Vincennes, IN. J. L. was an avid reader and enjoyed playing golf, watching college football and dancing with his lovely wife, Bonna, of 58 years of marriage. Services and cremation rites were held in Florida. A Memorial Mass will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday at Sacred Heart Church with Franciscan Fathers officiating. Visitation will be one hour before services at church. Family extends an invitation to join them at the Hotel Pere Marquette for fellowship following the services. Private burial of ashes will be at a later date in Peoria.
