James “Jim” Robert Agatucci, 86, of Edwards passed away at 2:17 p.m. on Thursday, January 26, 2023, at home, surrounded by his loving family.
Jim was born on September 18, 1936, in Peoria, Illinois, to Frank and Anne (Vespa) Agatucci, who preceded him in death. In 1941, Jim moved with his family to South Bend, Indiana, where his father took employment at Studebaker, attending St. Matthew’s Grade School. In 1946, they moved back to Peoria where he attended St. Philomena’s Grade School. Jim went to Spalding High School for two years before moving with his family to Chicago where he attended Proviso High School from where he graduated in 1954. In the summer of 1954, Jim moved with his family to Lee’s Summit, Missouri where he lived for 7 months before his enlistment.
Jim was a veteran of the United States Army. He enlisted in 1955 and was proud of the mapmaking work he provided for the officers while in Seoul, South Korea near the 38th Parallel. Throughout the rest of his life, he continued to be very patriotic, displaying great pride and admiration for our country, instilling that sense of honor in his children and grandchildren. After his time in the Army, Jim got his pilot’s license and enjoyed flying throughout the Midwest during his twenties and thirties. He married the love of his life, Jeanne Shank, in July of 1969.
Jim lived an exemplary life as a businessman, devoted husband, loving father and grandfather. He deeply loved his family, cherishing every visit. In addition, Jim greatly missed chatting with loyal customers after his retirement as co-owner/operator of Agatucci’s Restaurant in Peoria where he worked faithfully for 54 years. He loved the Peoria community.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Jeanne; his three children, Gina (Jim) Kouri, Tony (Angie) Agatucci and Lisa (Phil) McIntosh; seven grandchildren, Vincent, Caroline and Dominic Kouri, James and Michael Agatucci, and Justin and A.J. McIntosh; one brother, Jerry (Sophie) Agatucci, and many nieces and nephews.
