Obituary for James Francis Kelly

Peoria- James Francis Kelly, age 87, of Peoria, formerly New Mexico, passed away at 5:24 PM on Friday, November 24, 2017 at OSF Richard L. Owens surrounded by his family.

Born December 16, 1929 in Peoria, he was a son to Joseph M. and Anne (O’Connell) Kelly. He honorably served in the United States Army during the Korean War. On June 12, 1954 he married the love of his life Mary Schaab at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Peoria. James worked as a plumber for the majority of his life ending his career as supervisor of maintenance at University of New Mexico Hospital. He loved bike riding, camping and canoeing whenever he was given the chance. He and his brother John convinced many friends and family members to join them in these adventures, most notably the Mid America Canoe Race and biking across the Midwest. James will be remembered for being a longtime volunteer for the Easter Seals Telethon and volunteering at Richwood High School during football season. Having loved telling stories about he and his brother John’s involvement in the Huddy Glen Gang, James’s favorite past time was truly spending time with his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother who was dearly loved and will be deeply missed.

Survivors include his wife Mary Kelly of Peoria; six children: Lynn (John) Ringham of Peoria, Mark (Susie) Kelly of Dunlap, Kate Young of Ann Arbor, MI, Maureen (John) Addis of Edelstein, IL, Maria Castle of Peoria, and Fran Kelly of Rio Rancho, NM; 13 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Mary Donlan of Peoria, Patricia Arbogast of WV, and Josie Court of Phoenix, AZ.

James was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother John Kelly.

Cremation rights have been accorded and a Celebration of Life Service will take place at a later date.

Memorials in James’ memory may be made to OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home.
