Obituary for James E. Waid, Sr.

Peoria- James E. Waid, Sr., of East Peoria, passed away at 1:21 AM Sunday, April 1, 2018, OSF St. Francis Medical Center.

Jim was born on March 30, 1940 in Peoria to Elmer and Verna Waid. He married Dorothy L. Ford on May 2, 1959, she survives with his loving memory.

Jim was a proud Manual High School alum.

Jim is also survived by one son, James “Jim” Waid, Jr., of Brimfield, one daughter, Joyce (Scott) Elger of Peoria, nine grandchildren; Tabatha Waid, Tara (Nick) Panek, Brianna (Ryan) Hart, Emma Waid, Lucy Waid,… Alexander (Megan) Elger, Clayton Elger, Breanna Elger, and Olivia Elger, five great-grandchildren; one brother, Kenneth Waid of Augusta, GA., and one sister Mary Lou (Dewey) Hall of East Peoria.

He was preceded in death by his parents and four sisters.

Jim was a proud U.S. Army veteran. He also worked at the Post Office as a mail carrier prior to his 30 year career in various capacities at Caterpillar in the Information Technology Department, retiring in 2000. Jim and Dorothy were members of the Peoria Elks Lodge #20 and attended many regular events there.

Jim thoroughly enjoyed his children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and activities – rarely missing an opportunity to support their endeavors. Jim and Dorothy attended Manual High School basketball games long after their son Jim’s graduation. They also spent many years as season ticket holders for the Bradley Men’s Basketball team.

Jim was also interested in modern homes and real estate.  Jim and Dorothy built two of the newest homes on scenic Fondulac Drive in East Peoria and thoroughly enjoyed their views of Peoria.  Most recently, Jim embarked on his crown jewel – a three story residence with sweeping gulf views across from the famed Crescent Beach in Siesta Key, Fl.

Jim’s family would like to thank Dr. Douglas Kasper, Dr. John Farrell, and Dr. John Shallot for their professional and compassionate care.
