Obituaries
Kickapoo – James E. Schmitt, 79, of Kickapoo, passed away at 5:15 pm Friday, June 11 at Lacon Rehab & Nursing (formerly St. Joseph’s Home), where he had resided the past three & a half years.
Jim was born January 4, 1942 in Peoria to Edward “Ernie” and Betty (Binegar) Schmitt. He married Violet Ann Schaub January 28, 1967 in Kickapoo. She preceeded him in death March 5, 2017. Jim was also preceded in death by his parents and sister, Patricia Charlton.
Surviving are children Anne Marie (Darin) Hinderman of Peoria, Steve (Annie) Schmitt and Jason Schmitt, both of Brimfield; and five grandchildren.
Also surviving are brother, Tom Schmitt, of Chillicothe, and sisters Marilyn Diviney of Washington and Mary Jo Wilcox of Canton.
Jim was a operator for IUOE Local 649 for 46 years, retiring in 2007.
He was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Kickapoo and a member of the Kickapoo Sportman’s Club.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, June 15, 2021 between the hours of 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM at St. Mary’s Parish Hall in Kickapoo with a prayer service at 7:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, June 16, 2021 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary Catholic Church in Kickapoo with an additional visitation being held 30 minutes prior to mass. Father James Pankiewicz and Father Joe Dondanville will officiate and burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Kickapoo.
Memorials in James’s memory may be made to St. Mary’s Church in Kickapoo.
