Obituary for James D. Wasson

Naperville- James D (JD) Wasson, 81, passed away at 11:45 pm on Friday Oct. 30, 2009 in Edward Hospital in Naperville. Born on May 4, 1928 in a farm house on Texas Road in Rosefield Township, IL near Peoria, he was the son of Max Wasson and Rose Dwyer. He married Ardith L Pool on Oct. 18, 1947. She passed away on Dec. 31, 2005. He was preceded in death by a brother Paul Wasson. Surviving are four children Michael L(Kathy) Wasson of Morristown, NJ; Stephen T (Mary) Wasson of Woodridge, IL; Wendy(Jason) Istas of Joplin, MO; and James J(Carol) Wasson of Decatur, IN. JD (as most friends and family called him) has 14 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren. Raised on a farm he became a truck driver early in his career. Later he owned and managed Pizza Delite in Peoria, IL for 14 years. During the 1960’s he was a Director and President of the Greater Peoria Restaurant Association. He sold his restaurant and retired from the pizza business so he could devote his energies toward his favorite hobby, horses. He made numerous trips to Wyoming to round up Wild Horses, opened Tack & Duds Western Store with his son Steve Wasson and was a Director and President of the Illinois High School Rodeo Association in the 1970’s. He produced four Illinois High School State Championship Rodeos. JD returned to an earlier career working for G & D Trucking where he retired in the late 1990’s. From 1963 till January 2006 he lived on his farm west of Peoria. It was the site of numerous gatherings of family and friends over the years. Funeral Services will be Wednesday, 9 a.m. at Wright & Salmon Mortuary, with Pastor Stephen Barch officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the mortuary, and half hour prior to services on Wednesday. Burial will be in Texas Union Cemetery in Trivoli.
