Obituary for Jacob R Gauwitz Jr.

Maquon- Jacob R. Gauwitz, Jr., age 75, of Maquon, IL passed at 3:36 Pm on Friday, March 17, 2023 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center.


Born May 19, 1947 in Peoria, a son to Jacob R. Sr. and Marle (Jouvenaux) Gauwitz. Jacob was raised and educated in Peoria graduating with the Class of 1965. Upon graduating Jacob honorably served in the United States Marines Corps during the Vietnam Conflict. On February 5, 1967 he married Renda Patrick in Reno, Nevada and together they cherished 50 years until her passing on October 17, 2017. Jacob worked as a machinist for Caterpillar until his retirement, after which he began working as a receptionist for Proctor Place. He was an avid outdoors man who enjoyed hunting and fishing. In his free time Jacob loved playing golf and you could often find him enjoying a nice glass of Irish Whiskey. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother who will be dearly missed.


Survivors include two children: Caren Geckler of Borden, IN and Scott (Lona) Gauwitz of Maquon, IL; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one brother Randy (Becky) Gauwitz of East Peoria; and two sisters: Cindy Blake of Washington, IL and Josephine Gauwitz of Metamora.


Jacob was preceded in death by his parents.


Cremation rites have been accorded per Jacob’s wishes. Burial will take place in St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Metamora at a later date.


Preferred memorials in Jacob’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.
