Obituary for Jack Steenrod

PEORIA – Jack Steenrod, 88, of Peoria passed away at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday, September 25, 2012 at Bel-Wood Nursing Home.
Jack was born on September 30, 1923 in Peoria to Terrell Finney and Helen (Baker) Steenrod. He first married Jeanne Miller. She preceded him in death. He later married Mary (Grimm) Keenan in Peoria in 1993. She survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Terrell Steenrod of Lincoln, IL and Jeffrey (Rebecca) Steenrod of Peoria; one daughter, Rebecca Scott of Peoria; two stepsons, Bill (Meg) Keenan of Redwood City, CA and Christopher (Sue) Keenan of East Amherst, NY; one stepdaughter, Carrie (Jon) Ziegele of Brookfield, WI; nine grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Jack attended Bradley University. He served in the Army during WWII as a Tech Sergeant in Army Intelligence serving in the European Theatre and in the Philippines.
He worked for many years at CAT until his retirement. He was also an actor, director, and writer for Peoria Players, CAT Chorus, and Cornstock Theatre for 50 years.
Jack was a member of the American Legion and the VFW. He was also a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, Peoria Heights.
A memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at St. Thomas Catholic Church. Father Thomas Taylor will officiate. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Friday, September 28, 2012 at Wright Salmon Mortuary and 30 minutes prior to the Mass at the church. Cremation rites have been accorded. Burial will be in Swan Lake Memory Gardens.
Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
