Obituary for Jack Jonah Sharp

WEST PEORIA - Jack Jonah Sharp, 73, of West Peoria, formerly of Waterloo, AL, passed away on May 28, 2013, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. Jack was born September 15, 1939, in Waterloo, AL, to Hubert and Beadie (Wood) Sharp. They both preceded him in death along with two sisters, Corrine South, Virginia Wallace, and a grandson, Kyle Sharp. He married Mary E. Staggs on March 12, 1959. He later married Patricia A. Stroup on September 4, 1970, in Peoria, IL. She survives. Also surviving are his children, Micheal of Sheboygan, WI, Phyllis (Rich) Brecklin of Dunlap, Rick (Teresa) of Galesburg, Amanda of Peoria; eight grandchildren, Richie (Lauren) Brecklin, David (Michelle) Brecklin, Micheal, Erin, and Corey Sharp, Kirstyn (Tony) Wolfe, Brittany and Brett Sharp; four great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Payton, Kyle, and Waylon; two soon-to-be great-grandchildren, babies Brecklin and Sharp on the way in fall 2013; three brothers, W.C. and Tiny of Waterloo, AL, and Bill (Judy) of Oak Hill; two sisters, Sarah Smith of Roanoke, VA, and Betty (Buford) Arnold of Florence, AL: and many nieces and nephews. Jack was a graduate of Waterloo High School. Jack launched his own business, Sharp’s Seamless Gutters, with the help of his wife, Patricia, in 1970, and was owner/operator for 42 years, until he retired in 2011. Jack was an avid sportsman and sports fan. He loved hunting and fishing with his brother, Tiny, his grandchildren, his son in law, Rich, and his best friends, B.W. and Steve. He loved the St Louis Cardinals, Alabama Crimson Tide Football, and Dr. Pepper. Besides his family and sports, Jack loved his dogs. It was rare to see him without a dog by his side or in his lap. For the past few years, his best buddy has been Woody, a rescue dog, who gave Jack great comfort the last couple years as he struggled with Alzheimer’s disease and most recently a terminal diagnosis of Acute Myeloid Leukemia. Jack was an extremely loving man who was always proud of his children and grandchildren. Jack’s Celebration of Life will be at 11 a.m., Saturday, June 1, 2013, at Wright & Salmon Mortuary. Visitation will be two hours before the service. Cremation rites have been accorded. In lieu of flowers, please send memorials to St Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Alzheimer’s Association of Peoria, or Pets for Seniors, P.O. Box 64, Edwards, IL 61528.
