Obituary for Jack Eugene Duggan

PEORIA – Jack Eugene Duggan, 89, of Peoria passed away at 9:30 p.m. Monday, December 23, 2013, at his residence. Jack was born on July 5, 1924, near Buffalo, IL, to Eugene and Ann (Mulcahey) Duggan. He married Mary Helen Fleming on November 2, 1946, in Springfield, IL. She survives. He is also survived by four daughters, Colleen Duggan of Kansas, Maureen Duggan of Northern California, Kathleen (Thomas) O’Brien of Dallas, and Molly Duggan of Northern California; five grandchildren, Miriam “Luz” (Brian), Gina, Shannon, Gabriella, Brendan; one great-granddaughter, Bailey; and one brother, Leo Duggan of Fairfax, VA. He was preceded in death by his eldest and only son, Patrick Eugene Duggan in 2006; and four brothers, James, Richard, William, and Patrick. Jack was an Army veteran, attaining the rank of sergeant. He served in the South Pacific during World War II and was a Purple Heart recipient. He spent 55 years in the dental profession. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and a dedicated member of St. Philomena Catholic Church. Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 31, 2013, at St. Philomena Catholic Church. Father David Richardson will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield, IL, with full military honors.
