Obituary for Jack D. Hallengren

Jack D. Hallengren, 91, of Peoria, died on Saturday, May 26, 2012 at 5 a.m. at OSF St. Francis Medical Center. Born September 15, 1920 in Peoria to George and Helen Hainline Hallengren, he married Norma Bartolo September 6, 1948 in Peoria at St. Mary’s Cathedral. She survives along with one son, Bob (Mary) Hallengren of Greenville, SC, two daughters, Kathy (Frank) Virant and Maureen Hallengren, both of Peoria. Her grandchildren, Suzanne (Sean) Gilles of Hanna City, Tom (Casey Dodson) Virant of Austin, TX, Bryan and Brooke Hagarty Hallengren of Champaign, and Beth Hallengren of Champaign, and two great grandchildren, Cole Gilles and Jack D. Hallengren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Skinner. Jack was a WWII Army Veteran, serving as a Sergeant in the 724th Ordinance Company of 24th “Victory Division”. He served from October 11, 1942 to December 22, 1945 in the campaign in New Guinea and the invasion of Leyte and Mindanao in the Philippines. He was awarded two Bronze Stars for his valor. He was a lifetime member of IBEW #34, and was one of the founders of Laser Electric Company, retiring in 1985. A Funeral Service will be on Wednesday, 10:30 a.m. at Wright & Salmon Mortuary. Visitation will be Tuesday, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the mortuary, and half hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Entombment will be in Resurrection Mausoleum.
