Obituary for J. Robert "Bob" Dougherty
Peoria- J. Robert “Bob” Dougherty, age 89, of Peoria passed away at 12:30 AM Monday, June 26, 2017, at Cornerstone Rehabilitation Center.
Born November 9, 1927, in Peoria, to John Francis and Cora (Harris) Dougherty, Bob married Joyce A. Stell on February 23, 1951 in Peoria at St. Mark Catholic Church. Bob was proceeded in death by his wife and his sister, Helen Dwyer.
Surviving are his children; Ann Dougherty of Saugatuck, MI, Michael (Gina) Dougherty of Oklahoma City, OK, John (Ruthanna) Dougherty of Kingman, AZ, and Thomas (Deborah) Dougherty of Peoria; twelve grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and one brother, Jerry Dougherty of Peoria.
Bob attended Spalding Institute and graduated from Bradley University with a Bachelor’s degree in business. He proudly served in the US Army, from 1950-1954, and was stationed in Germany during the Korean Conflict. He was a Peoria County board member in the early 1970’s and was a former member of the 3rd degree Knights of Columbus Spalding Council #427. Bob was a devout catholic and a member of St. Mark Catholic Church and the Men’s Club. He was immensely proud of his Irish heritage and shared that love with his family.
Bob was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather who will be truly missed.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, July 2, 2017 between the hours of 4:00 PM till 6:00 PM at Wright & Salmon Mortuary. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, July 3, 2017 at 10:00 AM at St. Mark Catholic Church with an additional visitation thirty minutes prior to mass. Msgr. Brian Brownsey will officiate. Burial will follow in St Mary Cemetery in West Peoria.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Peoria Notre Dame Building Fund or the Children's Hospital of Illinois.
