Obituary for Ivette Alwan
East Peoria- Ivette (Romanous) Alwan, 89, entered her Heavenly reward at 4:23 PM on Saturday, January 06, 2018 surrounded by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Born on July 15, 1928 to Jamil and Najeebe Romanous. Ivette married her best friend and love of her life Youssef Alwan on November 4, 1946 in Tripoli, Lebanon. Wanting to make a better life for their three boys, they immigrated to Peoria, Illinois on February 18, 1968. Within days of stepping on American soil, she gained employment at Ducky’s Formal Wear where she worked until 1982. That year, she and her sons opened up Youssef’s Deli in honor of her husband who passed the year prior. Ivette was known as "Mama" by all patrons visiting the deli as she greeted them with her loving smile and delicious middle eastern cuisine. Ivette was a very active member of St. Sharbel’s church and Itoo Hall, she was always the first person to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
Ivette is survived by 3 sisters Ilda Ghantous, Janet ( Fred ) Khattar, Georgette ( Jim ) Siedlecki, 3 sons Sarkis Alwan, Bakhos Alwan and Jamil (Sandra) Alwan; 6 grandchildren, Christina (John) Miller, Mike Alwan, Jay (Beth) Alwan, Michelle (Andy) Immel, Nicki Alwan and Tony Alwan and 5 great-grandchildren Amani, Jax & Che’ Miller & Charlotte and Cecilia Alwan. Ivette’s family was her life, she was truly an angel here on Earth.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son Anthony, a granddaughter Natalie and one sister, Houlia Monla.
Ivette spent the end of her life under the loving care of the wonderful staff at Rosewood Care Center in East Peoria. The family would also like to thank Transitions Hospice for their care and support in her final days.
