Obituary for Irene G. McMenamin
Peoria- Irene G. McMenamin, age 90, of Peoria, passed away at 8:20 PM on Thursday, December 29, 2016 at Snyder Village.
Born March 31, 1926 in Streator, Illinois, she was a daughter to John and Marie Moore-Fitzgibbons. On July 29, 1950 she married the love of her life Dr. Hugh J. McMenamin, Jr. in Maywood, Illinois. He preceded her in death on October 30, 2007. Irene was a homemaker most of her life who enjoyed being a devoted wife and mother to her family. She was a long time choir member and parishioner at St. Thomas Catholic Church, and was an active member and officer of the Catholic Women’s League. Irene was on the St. Thomas School Board, was a recipient of the Catholic Diocese Pere Marquette Award, an active supporter of Smiley Living Center, and a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians. She will be remembered for volunteering at OSF St. Francis Medical Center, coordinating City wide March of Dimes, and for her participation with the Peoria Medical Auxiliary. Irene was a loving mother grandmother, and great-grandmother who was truly loved and will be deeply missed.
Survivors include six children; Daniel (Bonnie) McMenamin of Indianapolis, Eileen Teska of Indianapolis, Carol (Marc) Pasteris of Peoria Heights, Joyce (Alan) Anderson of Roanoke, Mark (Ken Wang) McMenamin of San Francisco, and Patrick (Karen) McMenamin of Morton; 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Irene was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son Hugh J. McMenamin III, one daughter Joan Marie, and six sisters.
Visitation will be held on Monday, January 02, 2017 between the hours of 4:00 PM till 6:00 PM at Wright & Salmon Mortuary. Recitation of the rosary will take place at 6:00 PM. An additional visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 03, 2016 from 9:30 AM until time of Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at St. Thomas Catholic Church. Fr. Paul Stark will officiate and burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery.
Memorials in Irene’s memory may be made to the Catholic Women’s League of Peoria, or St. Thomas Building Fund.
