Obituary for Howard Leo Mooney

PEORIA-Howard Leo Mooney, 85 of Peoria, passed away at 1 a.m. last Sunday, July 23, 2006 at ManorCare. Howard was born October 31, 1920 in Peoria to Howard Lancaster and Elizabeth Pokorski Mooney. Howard and Mary Ann Grawey were married December 27, 1943 in Peoria. Mary Ann passed away on January 23, 2005, also at ManorCare. Howard was also preceded in death by his two sisters, Marian Etchason and Delores Mooney. Two sons and one daughter survive him: Michael (Victoria) Mooney of Cheney, WA, Christine (David) Jackman of Enterprise, OR and Patrick (Janine) Mooney of Morton. He is also survives by 16 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Howard attended St. Joseph’s Grade School and Spalding Institute, both in Peoria. From 1937 until 1962 Howard was a sheet metal worker for Champion Furnace Pipe Co. After working at Natkin until 1969, Howard worked full-time and was part owner of Grawey Glass Co. He retired in 2001. On September 7, 1942, Howard Joined the Coast Guard. He served most of his time during World War II in Alaska. He was discharged October 14, 1945. Howard was a loyal and enthusiastic supporter of the St. Louis Cardinals, and he also enjoyed the Bradley Braves. He was a member of St. Mark’s Catholic Church and the American Legion. His funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. on Friday at St. Mark’s Church. Rev. Jeremiah Munyoki will officiate. Visitation at the church will begin one hour before the Mass. Wright & Salmon Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in West Peoria. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mark’s Church.
