Obituary for Howard L. Setterlund

PEORIA – Howard L. Setterlund, 88, of Peoria passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2014, at Lutheran Hillside Village. Howard was born on Mar. 12, 1926, in Minneapolis, Minn., to Walter and Amy (Anderson) Setterlund. He married Virginia E. Wyss on Sept. 5, 1953, in Peoria. She preceded him in death on July 25, 2005. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Roy and Don. He is survived by two sons, Ken (Connie) Setterlund and Art (Janice) Setterlund both of Peoria; one daughter, Sheri (Gary) Snider of Peoria; six grandchildren, Tracie (Lloyd) Timerman, Terrie (Pat) Armstrong, Lauren (Mike) Gardiner, Jessica (Jared) Olson, Melissa Snider, and Jordan Snider; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Harold Setterlund of Pontiac; and a long time special friend, Shirley Coyle. Howard graduated from Manual High School, where he was the starting quarterback on the football team. His love for sports continued as a loyal fan of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren’s sporting events. He followed the Chicago Bears, Chicago Cubs, and the Bradley Braves and was also an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a World War II Navy veteran. He was as a steamfitter, working out of Local #353 with 35 years at Hiram Walker. After retiring, he worked at Methodist Medical Center. Howard’s highest priorities in life were his Christian faith, family, close friends, and his strong belief in family harmony. A funeral service will be at noon, Saturday, Dec. 20, 2014, at Salem Lutheran Church in Peoria. Pastor David Hofer will officiate. Visitation will be from 10 – 12:00 p.m. Saturday prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Salem Lutheran Church or to Lutheran Hillside Village. Tributes and condolences may be submitted to
