Obituary for Henry "Hank" D. Cassens

Peoria- Henry “Hank” D. Cassens, age 78, of Peoria, passed away at 10:00 PM on Monday, May, 29, 2017 surrounded by his family.

Born June 18, 1938 in Peoria, he was a son to Henry John and Frances (Eagleson) Cassens. He lettered in football, boxing, and Track & Field at Roosevelt Jr. High, and was a 1956 graduate of Manual Training High School. Hank went on to honorably serve in the United States Army Reserves as a Staff Sargent in the Infantry during 1962-1967. On March 12, 1960 Hank married Joyce Abraham in Chicago, she survives.

He was a Ford new car dealer in Wyoming, IL and Dunlap, IL. While at Ford he was a Board Member of the Ford Dealer Advertising Fund and he won many awards during his career. Afterwards he went to work for the Peoria county Sheriff’s Department until his retirement in 2001. Hank was a member of the Mohammed Temple Shriners, the Masons Alta Lodge #078, American Legion #979, Creve Coeur Club, Kiwanis Club of Dunlap, and a board member of Weaver Ridge Golf View Board. Hank loved cars and was an original member of the Slow Pokes Car Club, as well as, one of the originators and sponsors of the JFL Program in Dunlap.

Hank had a deep love for his family and his faith. He served on the St. Paul Lutheran Church council and also taught Sunday school. He loved racing, the Chicago Cubs, the Chicago Bears, going to his Friday morning breakfast club, and spending winters in Longboat Key, FL. Hank had a deep love for life and was known to often give blood to help others. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, who was deeply loved and will be dearly missed.

Survivors include his wife Joyce of Peoria; one daughter Tracey Head and Son-in-law Brendan Head of Clarendon Hills, Illinois; two grandsons, Ayden and Tristan Head; and one sister Cheryl Cook of Peoria.

Hank was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 04, 2017 between the hours of 5:00 PM till 7:00 PM at Wright & Salmon Mortuary. A funeral service will take place on Monday, June 05, 2017 at 11:00 AM at St. Paul Lutheran Church with an additional visitation 30 minutes prior to funeral services. Reverend. William Dohle, Jr. will officiate and burial with military honors will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Kickapoo.
