Obituary for Henry C. Bankie Jr.

Henry C. Bankie Jr., 87, of Peoria, died on Sunday, November 30, 2014 at 10:24 a.m. at his home. Born March 7, 1927, in Wyoming, IL., to Henry C. and Ada June Henry Bankie Sr., he married Margaret I. Colgan on July 19, 1947, in Bradford. She survives along with four children, Brett (Eda) Bankie of Novato, CA., Margo (John) Flad of Viera, FL., Susan (Brett) Alexander of South Bend, IN., and Christopher “C.J.” Bankie of Peoria; five grandchildren, Stacy (Mike) Durso, Shelley (Larry) Estep, Heather (William) Taft, Jennifer Bankie, and Jason Clark; five great grandchildren, Francesca Durso, Donatella Durso, Jacinda Estep, Rachel Taft, and Jason Taft. He was preceded in death by two sisters. Henry graduated from Bradley University in 1952, with a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering. He was a District Maintenance Engineer with the State of Illinois for thirty five and a half years, retiring in 1987. He was in charge of the layout and supervised construction of Interstate 74 in Tazewell County. He also supervised construction of the Murray-Baker Bridge on I74 which crosses over the Illinois River. He was a member of the Association of Highway Engineers. Henry was a WWII US Navy Veteran. A Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday, December 3, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at Resurrection Mausoleum Chapel, with Fr. Dustin Schultz officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass at the Mausoleum Chapel. Entombment will be in Resurrection Mausoleum.
