Obituary for Henry Francis Humkey
Peoria- Henry Francis Humkey, 92, of Buehler Home passed away December 19, 2018 in Peoria.
Henry was born August 11, 1926 in Lebanon, KY to William A. and Harriet Nuel (Doody) Humkey. He married Regina Hellstern on October 1, 1955 in Peoria.
He is survived by three children, Mary Jane Humkey of Morehead, KY, Charles Humkey (Nadine) of Dunlap, IL, and Michael Humkey (Debby) of Columbia, MD; two grandchildren, Brian Dotzert (Amanda) of Marine, IL, and Scott Dotzert (Jennifer) of Noblesbille, IN, and five Great-Grandchildren, Sarah Dotzert, Megan Dotzert, Luke Dotzert, Travis Dotzert, and Grace Dotzert. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by both Parents; Wife; Brothers, William A. Humkey, Lawrence Humkey, Maurice Humkey, and John Humkey; Sister, Harriet Nuel Tharp; and Son, Steven J. Humkey.
Henry grew up in Lebanon, KY. He served in the Army during WWII and was discharged in 1946. After he was discharged he obtained his Bachelor’s degree from St. Louis University in Chemistry and pursued a career as a Chemist at Hiram Walker in Peoria. He worked at Hiram Walker for 37 years and retired in 1988. Henry was an avid sportsman enjoying hunting and fishing. In his free time, he enjoyed reading, walking, and playing pool with the boys at Buehler. He was a devout catholic of St. Mark Catholic Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was proud to volunteer wherever he could may it be blood donation, Junior Achievement Literacy Program, and various roles at St. Mark Catholic Church. His family meant the world to him and he enjoyed spending time with his loving Wife Regina and their wonderful grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, January 5, 2018 at St. Mark Catholic Church in Peoria. A visitation will be from 9:30 AM until time of Memorial Mass. Msgr. John Prendergast will officiate. Henry has chosen to have his body donated to medical science. Cremation rites will be accorded. Burial will follow at a later date in St. Mary Cemetery in West Peoria.
