Obituary for Helen L. Weeks

PEORIA-Helen L. Weeks, 83 of Peoria, passed away at 3:50 a.m. on Monday, October 22, 2007 at her residence, after an unexpected illness. She fought for an long as possible to spend her final days with her family. She was born on July 23, 1924 in Decatur, IL to Roy W. and Gertrude M. Parker Taylor. She married Harold F. Weeks on July 5, 1947 in Pekin, IL. He passed away on June 14, 1997 in Peoria. She was also preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Bill Taylor. She is survived by one son, Ron (Cindy K.) Weeks of Payson, AZ; four daughters, Kathy (Dave) Keyster of Tremont, Kris (Jim) Buecker of Peoria Heights, Cindy (Russ) Carrington and Terri (Tom) Stevens both of Peoria; twelve grandchildren, Erik, Jason, Tony, Rebekah, Amanda, Matt C., Heather, Stephie, Dawn, Matt, Kourtney and Kevin; 4 great-grandchildren; one brother, Don (Joyce) Taylor of Bartonville; and two sisters, Betty L. West of Tremont and Mary (Kenny) Vanderheydt of San Antonio, TX; and one sister-in-law, Judy Taylor of Peoria. She was proud to utilize her sewing skills as an Assistant Manager at the “House of Fabrics”. She was a graduate of Midstate College in 1966, while raising her young family. She was Literature Coordinator at Caterpillar, Inc. for 20 years. After retiring from Caterpillar, she established “Tiny’s Ceramic Treasures” and shared her love of ceramics with her grandchildren and their classmates. She was a member of St. Philomena Catholic Church and it’s P.T.A., 4H, Girl Scouts. She was also a Cub Scout and Brownie Leader. The most important aspect of Helen’s life was her devotion to her family and friends. She enjoyed reading, crafts, shopping and cooking for her family. A Funeral Mass will be at 11:30 a.m. on Friday at St. Philomena Church with Rev. Donald Henderson officiating. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Wednesday at Wright & Salmon Mortuary and 30 minutes before the mass on Friday at the church. Cremation rites will be accorded. Inurnment of ashes will be in Resurrection Mausoleum. Memorial contributions may be made to Shriner’s Hospitals for Children, Chicago Unit, 2211 N. Oak Park Ave., Chicago, IL 60707-3392.
