Obituary for Helen L. Seitz

Helen L. Seitz 79 of Peoria passed away at 2:07 p.m. on Saturday, May 23, 2009. Helen was born October 8, 1929 in Bartonville to Albert and Mary Smith Gebhardt. She married William J. seitz on April 30, 2949 and they recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Helen had six children: Michael Seitz, Daniel Seitz, William Seitz, Mary Ann Gedymin, Steven Seitz, and David Seitz - all children are surviving. She also has 13 grandchildren and one sister Genie (Gebhardt) Trotter. Helen was a graduate of Bradley University and a member of the Chi Omega sorority. She taught 20 years in the Peoria Public School system, primarily second grade at Von Steuben, and she retired in 1989. After retiring, she was a member of the TKE Teachers’ sorority, the Peoria Retired Teachers’ Association, and the Illinois Retired Teachers’ Association. Helen was an accomplished, award-winning artist who painted in a variety of mediums. She was a long-standing member of the Illinois Art League and served on the Board in the past. Each summer for the last 15 years, she attended the Peninsula Art School in Door County, Wisconsin. Helen was also a fabulous cook and enjoyed preparing meals for her family and friends. Funeral Mass will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Rev Dustin Schultz officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery. After the graveside service, friends and family are invited to attend a luncheon at St. Vincent de Paul.
