Obituary for Helen E. "Beth" Maki
Washington- Helen E. “Beth” Maki, age 75, of Washington, passed away at 5:09 AM on Sunday, December 10, 2017 at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home.
Born September 08, 1942 in Sunbury, PA she was a daughter to John and Jane (Gass) Simpson. Beth graduated from Northumberland High School, in Northumberland, PA with the class of 1960. On June 14, 1964 she married the love of her life, Eugene L. “Lee” Maki, at First Reformed United Church in Sunbury, PA. Beth volunteered as a tutor and mentor with LSSI and was heavily involved with WTVP. She was the past Pekin Community Youth Band Business Manager, Pekin High School Band Booster Uniform chair, and Pekin High School Band Booster Plant Sale Chairman. Beth served in various positions within her churches including Treasurer, Sunday School and Vacation Bible School Teacher. Most recently she served in numerous roles at First English Lutheran Church, notably knitting layettes and embroidering baptismal banners. She also had the privilege to be a Host Parent for six foreign exchange students.
She is survived by her husband Lee of Washington; four children: Cheryl (Scott) Pammer of San Diego, CA, Kim (Chip) Ascherl of Peoria, IL, Eric (Carrie) Maki of Denver, CO, Marcia (Brian) Lough of Peoria, IL; ten grandchildren; two brothers: Jack (Jo) Simpson of Seneca, SC, Richard Simpson of Northumberland; two sisters: Sandy (Scott) Heintzelman of Sunbury, PA and Cindy Simpson of Sunbury, PA; one sister-in-law, Sue Simpson of Littlestown, PA; as well as twelve nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews.
Beth was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother Donald Simpson.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 14, 2017 between the hours of 4:00 PM till 7:00 PM at Wright & Salmon Mortuary. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, December 15, 2017 at First English Lutheran Church. Pastor Ryan Anderson will officiate and cremation rights will be accorded following funeral services.
Memorials in Beth’s memory may be made to First English Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, WTVP, or OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home.
