Obituary for Helen Davis
Wheaton- Helen J. Davis, age 92, passed away peacefully of natural causes at 9:55 PM on Thursday, October 13, 2016 at Atria Senior Living, Glen Ellyn, Illinois comforted by family.
Born in Warren County, Indiana on July 3,1924, she was the fifth child of seven born
to Cecil and Mary Miles. Though she lived in Illinois since she was 18 years old her heart was
always in Indiana. She was an avid Bobby Knight supporter and treasures her autographed
picture of her favorite coach! Helen worked as a bookkeeper for multiple firms in Peoria but spent over 25 years working at Sears in downtown Peoria. She was one of the first women employees in the electronics department receiving Sears Annual Award—Legends of Customer Service for her sales and unprecedented customer service.
When Helen was not working, her home became the neighborhood hub for parents and kids of
all ages to gather to laugh and play! Many of her ‘Committee Meetings’ took place on her
infamous patio. Her loving mannerisms and abilities to listen and be trusted surpassed all
expectations. Helen was active in multiple charities. She was involved with the Republican Party, Red Cross, Salvation Army, Susan G. Komen, St. Jude, and Youth Farm to name a few. She devoted her time to helping others whether with an organized group or anyone in need.
Helen is survived by her daughter Lynn Rule, son-in-law Scott Rule, daughter-in-law Joyce
Davis, grandchildren Scott Sarrett, Kristin Megaw, Jonathan Davis, and Steven ‘Scooter’ Davis
II and great grandchildren Graham and Reid Sarrett, Morrison and Cienna Megaw and Makenna
Davis and her brother Don Miles.
Helen was preceded in death by her beloved husband Fred H. Davis, dear son Steven Douglas
Davis, siblings Alice Massing, Margaret Davis, Lois Mielke, Bill Miles, Bob Miles, and parents
Cecil and Mary Miles.
Special thanks to all of the wonderful caregivers and friends that have supported Helen through
this difficult time.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Wright and Salmon Mortuary. Pastor Jack Thompson will officiate. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service. Burial will follow at a later date in Historic Springdale Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers memorials in Helen’s memory may be made to The American Alzheimer’s Association.
