Obituary for Harriette E. Reichert
Harriette Elizabeth Reichert, 92, of Peoria, passed away peacefully at 7:33 A.M., Sunday, November 19, 2017, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on June 19, 1925, in Peoria, a daughter of Harry F. and Esther Schwenger Ohl. She married Marion “Chuck” Reichert on February 14, 1953 at St. Mark Catholic Church in Peoria.
She is survived by her daughter, Kelly (Robert) Schwend of Peoria, and two grandchildren, Natalie (Marc) Crawford of Louisville, KY., and Parker Schwend of Champaign, IL,
She was preceded in death by her parents, her twin brother Harry M. Ohl, and her husband.
Harriette graduated from Peoria High School in 1943. Following graduation, she worked at Adams Music Company where she first met Chuck. She then worked at Bergner’s
Department Store, retiring in 2004 after forty-four years of service. Together Harriette and Chuck shared a lifelong love of music, which included participation in many local jazz events and associations. They also shared a love of sports, especially Cubs baseball and Duke University Basketball.
Harriette was a member of the Central Illinois Jazz Society, The American Legion Auxiliary, and Girl Scouts of America. She was a girl scout leader for many years, and most recently was a volunteer at the Peoria Area Convention and Visitors’ Bureau. She also served as a Peoria County election judge for over thirty years.
Harriette was a wonderful homemaker and enjoyed baking for her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and aunt. Her family and music were the greatest joys of her life.
She was a member of St. Philomena Catholic Church.
Harriette was a beautiful, strong and vibrant lady with a keen sense of style. Her motto was “fashion forward!”
A funeral mass will be held at 10 A.M. on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at St. Philomena Catholic Church, with Fr. David Richardson officiating.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 P.M. Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at Wright & Salmon Mortuary, with recitation of the Rosary at 6. Further visitation will be half hour prior to the mass on Wednesday.
Entombment will be in Resurrection Mausoleum.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of St. Francis of the Immaculate Conception Retirement Fund or St. Philomena Catholic Church.
