Obituary for Harold J. Lintz

PEORIA-Harold J. Lintz, 94 of 1636 W. Gaylord in Peoria, passed away at 12:25 p.m. on Friday, August 4, 2006 at his residence. Born on September 10, 1911 in Sedalia, MO to Joseph J. and Grace Shanahan Lintz. He married Eileen C. O’Brien on May 8, 1937 in Peoria. She passed away on December 18, 2003 in Peoria. He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, two brothers and a sister. Surviving are four sons, Dr. John (Marlene) Lintz of Belleville, Thomas (Karen) Lintz of Fishers, IN, James (Susan) Lintz of New Smyrna Beach, FL and Joseph of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada; four daughters, Mary Jo (Carl) Moon of Chillicothe, IL, Suzi Lintz of Lynnwood, WA, Ann Lintz of Peoria and Cathy Lintz of Woodinville, WA; 25 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren and 7 step great-grandchildren. He was a 1935 graduate of Bradley University. He served 40 years at the US Postal Service, 22 years as Assistant Postmaster and Director of Customer Service. He was acting Postmaster from 1961-1965. After retirement, he worked at Madison Park Bank for 9 years as Public Relations Director. He was past President of the Peoria Ad Club, past President of the Bradley University National Alumni Association, past President of the Postal Supervisor Association and past President of the Central Illinois Bradley Alumni Association. He served on the Board of Directors of the Peoria United Way for 20 years and served as General Champaign Chairman in 1975. He was associated with the Sunday Morning Baseball League for over 55 years, served as Treasurer, Vice President and President in 1977-1979, thereafter as Advisor member of the Board of Directors of the American Red Cross, serving as Secretary for 3 years. He received the Neve Harms Meritorious Service to Sports Award. He served on the Illinois High School State Baseball Tournament Committee. Member of the Bradley University Hall of Fame, a Charter member of the Greater Peoria Hall of Fame Committee, served on the Finance Board of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church and delivered Meals on Wheels. He was the First President of the Bradley University Newman Club, served on the first Catholic High School Board and a member of the Sandtrappers and Senior Golf League. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church where a funeral mass will be at 10 a.m. on Monday with Msgr. William Watson officiating. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. on Sunday at the church and 30 minutes before the mass at the church. Wright & Salmon Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in West Peoria. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, American Cancer Society or St. Vincent de Paul School Endowment Fund.
