Obituary for Harold Graydon Burchfield

PEORIA – Harold Graydon Burchfield, 80, of Morton, passed away at 1:56 p.m. Sunday, May 11, 2014, at OSF St. Francis Emergency Room. Harold was born September 22, 1933, in Mexico, Mo., to Graydon and Cleo (Johnson) Burchfield. He married Freeda Estelle Goff on June 28, 1958, in Missouri. She preceded him in death on May 5, 2014. He was also preceded in death by his parents; his younger brother, John; his oldest son, Warren; and his brother-in-law, Leslie Whalen. He is survived by sons, four sons, Karl (Cindy) Burchfield and Mark Burchfield both of Bartonville, Matthew (Susan) Burchfield of Barstow, Calif., and Graydon Burchfield of Carbondale, Ill.; two grandchildren, Brittany Burchfield of Chico, Calif., and Riker Burchfield of Bartonville; two step-grandsons, Jeremy King of Fort Belvoir, Va., and William King of Barstow, Calif.; and sister, Mary Ann Whalen of Olathe, Kans. Harold was raised in Mexico, Mo., and Benton, Mo. He was a Korean war Army veteran. He went to college and graduated in Kirksville, Mo. He later taught at Richwoods High School for over 30 years. He and his wife raised their family in Beardstown, Ill., and Dunlap. On many of his visits to Barstow, Calif., Harold would help his step-grandsons catch lizards. They will fondly remember these adventures. A funeral service for Freeda and Harold Burchfield will be 2 p.m. Thursday, May 15, 2014, at Wright & Salmon Mortuary. Pastor Stephen Barch will officiate. Visitation will be two hours prior to the service at the mortuary. A private family graveside will follow in Prospect Cemetery, Dunlap. The family would like to thank Morton Villa and the compassionate doctors and nurses who cared for Harold and Freeda in their remaining days.
