Obituary for Harold A. Jenn
PEORIA – Harold A. Jenn, 93, of Peoria passed away at 11:55 a.m. Monday, April 18, 2016, at Lutheran Hillside Village.
Harold was born on Dec. 6, 1922, in Hills, Iowa, to the late Aloysius and Louise (Winninger) Jenn. He married Alvina “Vi” Kiesewetter on Nov. 16, 1948, at St. Mary of Lourdes Catholic Church in Germantown Hills, Ill. She preceded him in death on Dec. 20, 2015.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers and four sisters.
He is also survived by four children, Steve Jenn of Atlanta, Ga., Tom (Donetta) of Peoria, Sharon (Tom) Baldwin of New Fairfield, Conn., and Leann (Jason) Cors of Fort Worth. Tex.; eight grandchildren, Jessica Giles, David Jenn, Brian Jenn, Denise Jenn, Kevin Baldwin, Caitlin Baldwin, Samantha Beck, and Emily Becker; four great-grandchildren, Morgan and Blake Giles and Taylor and Cooper Jenn.
Harold enlisted in the Army Air Corp in 1942 at the age of 19, serving as a radio operator and top turret gunner on a B24. He attained the rank of staff sergeant and was awarded the Air Medal with Oak Cluster. He was honorably discharged in 1946 following his 57th combat mission. In 1948, he graduated from Bradley University with a BS in architectural drawing.
He was president of Jenn Development & Construction and Jenn Realty. His first venture into land development was as co-developer of Sherwood Forest. Later came solo projects as developer of Lake of the Woods, Lake of the Woods Plaza, and Cedar Bluff Estates.
Harold was past president of the Home Builders Association of Greater Peoria and a board member of the Peoria Board of Realtors. He was also past commander of the VFW Peoria Post # 814. Additionally, he was a volunteer at Methodist Medical Center for 20 years in the pastoral care department, serving as an Extraordinary Eucharistic Minister and served on the Bradley University Alumni Board.
He was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church from its inception in 1975, was a founding trustee at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, and was a charter member of the St. Clements Knights of Columbus.
Harold was twice honored as “Boss of the Year” by the local chapter of the American Women’s Business Association.
A funeral Mass will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 23, 2016, at St. Jude Catholic Church. Father Patrick Henehan will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 22, 2016, also at St. Jude Catholic Church, with recitation of the Rosary at 6:45 p.m. An additional visitation will be 30 minutes prior to the Mass at the church. Entombment will be in Resurrection Mausoleum. Wright & Salmon Mortuary is handling the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Catholic School.
