Obituary for Gloria Cloud

PEORIA – Gloria P. Cloud, 88, of Peoria passed away at 10:35 a.m. Saturday, April 4, 2015, at Proctor Place, where she had lived since 2010. Gloria was born on Sept. 17, 1926, in Peoria to William H. and Margaret (Dixon) Errion. She found “Mr. Right” in a bar on New Years Eve. She married Jim Cloud on Feb. 18, 1950. He was the love of her life. He unfortunately died too soon. She never remarried. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Jim, and son, Jeff, who both died in the spring of 1972. Both her brother, Doug Errion, and sister, Lois Frasco, have also passed away. She is survived by her daughter, Jan (Danny) Brackett of Chillicothe; two sons, Brett of Peoria and Dan. She was blessed with a beautiful granddaughter, whom she adored, Olivia (Kyle) Green of Arlington, Wash. She had three grandsons, Dan, Jim, and Joe. She was thrilled with great-grandson, Aiden Green, and his sister, Addison. She is also survived by a step-granddaughter, Jessica (Michael) Voulgarelis, and another great-grandson, Andrew of Chicago. She felt blessed with five nieces and one nephew. She also leaves behind her second family, the staff of Proctor Place, whose kind and loving care made her final days easier for her and her family. Gloria worked at McLaughlin Insurance until children started arriving. She later went back to work at Manpower and SDS Services. In 1973, she joined Caterpillar and stayed until retiring in 1990. She always claimed it was the best decision she ever made. She loved telling people that she trained the current CEO, Doug Oberhelman, when he was “just a kid.” She volunteered at many places, including Easter Seals, West Bluff Grand Tour, George Washington board, Peoria Symphony Guild, and the Opera House. She was also a Girl Scout leader and tutor at Common Place. Gloria loved traveling, visiting countless places with Jan and Olivia and her nieces, Jacque France and Linda Osika. She chose to leave the home and yard she loved on Briarcliff to move to Proctor Place. It was a brave move. She knew no one there, but she never looked back, only forward to making new friends. A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 11, 2015, at Wright & Salmon Mortuary, with a visitation one-hour prior. Mary Jane West, Chaplain of Proctor Place, will officiate. She will be buried with Jim and Jeff in St. Mary’s Cemetery in West Peoria. Memorials may be made to Peoria County Search and Rescue or to a charity that’s important to you.
