Obituary for Geraldine J. Forgey Kelly
WEST PEORIA – Geraldine J. Forgey Kelly, 88, of West Peoria passed away at 3:18 a.m. Monday, May 23, 2016, at OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice.
Geraldine was born on June 2, 1927, in Peoria to the late Everett and Gertrude (Happ) Hartseil. She married James D. “Jim” Kelly on Oct. 8, 1994.
She is also survived by her beloved husband, Jim; one sister, Eileen Coughlin of Bartonville; two nephews, Chuck and Steve Hartseil; and one niece Judy Bennett.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Edward Forgey; and three brothers, Ellis, Robert, and Norman Hartseil.
Geraldine worked as the head of the file department at Keystone Steel & Wire.
Gerrie was a joyful woman who was dedicated to her faith and generously gave from her heart through her work at St. Joseph’s nursing home gift shop for many years and her volunteer efforts with the Sisters of St. Francis of the Immaculate Conception in West Peoria. An avid St. Louis Cardinals fan who delighted in giving gifts of chocolate, she had a zest for life that was contagious and brought many smiles during her life’s journey, especially to her beloved husband.
A memorial Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 26, 2016, at St. Mak Catholic Church. Msgr. Brian Brownsey will officiate. There will be no visitation. Cremation rites have been accorded and burial of ashes will be in St. Joseph Cemetery at a later date.
Memorials may be made to the Sisters of St. Francis of the Immaculate Conception Retirement Fund, 2408 W. Heading Ave., West Peoria, Ill., 61604.
