Obituary for Gene P. Clayton
Peoria- Gene P. Clayton, age 84, passed away 12:40 AM, Monday, December 12, 2016 at Buehler Home in Peoria, IL.
Born October 21, 1932 in Farmington, IL a son of Fred and Oce Shuler Clayton. He married Farlene Green, October 22, 1954 in Farmington, IL. She survives, along with two sons; Paul (Patty) Clayton and Peter (Beth) Clayton, and eight grandchildren; Caitlyn, Samantha, and Gwendolyn Clayton, Marie (Jacob) Beasley, Heidi and Holly Stephenson, and Carly and Casey Clayton, his twin brother; John (Marlene) Clayton and son-in-law, Bob Stephenson.
Gene was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers; Roger, Fred and Dick, and daughter, Mandy Stephenson.
Gene graduated from Farmington High School in 1950 and received his Bachelor’s Degree in 1954 from Western Illinois University. He joined the United States Army and served our country from 1954-1956, stationed in Japan, as a specialist 5. When he returned home, he continued his education with a Master’s Degree from Bradley University in 1959. Gene taught for one year in Prophetstown, IL at the high school and one year at Decatur High School. He spent the rest of his career in the Peoria District 150 School System, 6 years at White School as a teacher, and 25 years at Reservoir Elementary and Kingman Elementary as a principal.
Gene was a member of First United Methodist Church in Peoria, IL for over 50 years. He taught Sunday School, belonged to The Caring Hearts Organization, ushered, and attended Bible Study classes for many years.
Visitation will be 10:00 AM- 12:00 PM, Friday, December 16, 2016 at First United Methodist Church in Peoria, IL. Funeral Service will follow at 12:00 PM with Reverend Robert Phillips officiating. Cremation Rites will be accorded.
