Obituary for Gary A. Stauthammer
Peoria- Gary A. Stauthammer, age 54, passed away Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at his residence in Peoria, surrounded by his loving family.
Gary was born March 29, 1963 in Pekin, IL., a son to William A. and Patricia A. (Heitzman) Stauthammer. He married Denise G. (Lohrenz) Stauthammer on June 18, 1988 in Pekin. They were happily married for 29 years and had three children: Jaasiel and Jaelynn Stauthammer of Peoria, and Jacob (Darcy) Stauthammer of Wyoming, IL. He is also survived by his mother, Patricia Stauthammer of Pekin and three brothers: Randall W. (Mary) Stauthammer of Mapleton, IL., James A. Stauthammer of Pekin, and William A. (Angela) Stauthammer, Jr. of Mapleton. Gary developed a family relationship with Warren and Steve Krause, of Peoria.
He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Willis E. Stauthammer.
Gary graduated from Illinois Central College with Associates in Music and Fire Science. He went on to hold the rank of Captain as a City of Peoria Firefighter and was a Hazardous Material Coordinator. He was also a bugler for the Fire Department. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening and being outdoors. Gary enjoyed playing Dartball at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Chillicothe, IL., and at First United Methodist Church in Peoria. He loved his job and was extremely devoted to his family and all the people he worked with. Gary considered himself a public servant, even when he was off duty.
Gary was a member of the Second Reformed Church in Pekin, IL.
Funeral Services will be held 10:30 AM, Saturday, September 30, 2017 at First United Methodist Church 116 NE Perry Ave.,Peoria, IL. Visitation will be held 3:30 PM – 7:30 PM, Friday, September 29, 2017 also at the church. Additional visitation will be one hour prior to the services on Saturday at First United Methodist. Reverend Dr. Timothy Ozment, Reverend Linda Stader, and Chaplain Phillip Maclin will officiate. Additional services will be provided by Peoria Fire Fighters Local 50 Honor Guard. Cremation Rites will be accorded.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made, in Gary’s name, to the Kirk Edwards Foundation, 600 SW Adams St., Peoria, IL 61602.
