Obituary for Garnet J. Render

PEORIA-Garnet J. “Brud” Render, 95, formerly of St. Augustine Manor in Peoria, passed away at 7 a.m. on Sunday, June 6, 2010, at Heritage Manor in Chillicothe. Born on August 14, 1914, in Streator, IL to Leo S. and Claudine Fishburn Render. He married Rosemary T. Hadank on February 20, 1943, in Peoria. She passed away on June 12, 1997, in Peoria. He was also preceded in death by one grandson, Joshua and one sister. Surviving are six daughters, Linda (Earl) Terwische of Jacksonville, IL, Mary (Calvin) Render of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Martha (Richard) Schlink of Chillicothe, Monica (Norman) Ramsel of Severance, CO, Rosalie (the late Command Sgt. Major Roger) Montgomery of Colorado Springs, CO, and Jill (Bill) Hallstrom of Peoria; one son, Michael (Jody) Render of East Peoria; thirty-two grandchildren; thirty-six great-grandchildren, and one brother, Jim Render of Palmdale, CA. Brud first worked as a machinist at Caterpillar, Inc. and for 30 years, he was a clerk at the US Post Office, retiring in 1978. He was a World War II Navy veteran. He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, St. Vincent de Paul Men’s Club, D.A.V., and Senior Citizens Band. He played in a jazz band in High School and was Captain of the tennis team at Spalding. He loved to golf and taught his kids how to play. He also loved to dance and sing. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 10, 2010, at St. Vincent de Paul Church with Rev. Dustin Schultz officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday at Wright & Salmon Mortuary with recitation of the Rosary at 7 p.m. Additional visitation will be 30 minutes before the Mass at the church. Entombment will be in Resurrection Mausoleum, where military rites will be accorded. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Augustine Manor.
