Obituary for Fred J. Haddad, Sr.

HOPEDALE-Fred J. Haddad, Sr., 96, of Hopedale, IL, died at 3:30 p.m. Friday, May 20, 2011, at Hopedale Medical Center. Born April 18, 1915, in Peoria, IL to Joseph and Mary Sleyman Haddad. Fred has one surviving sister, Frieda Abdnour of Peoria, IL. Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Mary E. Ringness, whom he married on October 4, 1936, in Peoria. Together they had five children including three sons, Fred Jr. (Sandra) Haddad of Hendersonville, NC, Robert, deceased (Sue) Haddad of Peoria, IL and Steve Haddad of Chicago, IL; along with two daughters, Carol (Robert) Gardula of Wilmette, IL and Patricia (Joshua) Geske of Peoria, IL. He was the proud grandfather of eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. Fred attended Bradley University before following his father’s footsteps in the grocery business, founding Haddad’s Market on Wisconsin Avenue in the East Bluff and Rohmann Avenue in West Peoria, where he built a family grocery store tradition and became a pillar in the community. Haddad’s Market was his passion. He enjoyed greeting and helping people in the community throughout most of his life. He enjoyed his family, traveling and being with his friends. Fred was a past member of the Willow Knolls Country Club and the Creve Coeur Club. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 24, 2011, at St. Bernard Catholic Church with Rev. Christopher Layden officiating. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. on Monday at Wright & Salmon Mortuary and 30 minutes before the Mass at the church. Entombment will be in Resurrection Mausoleum.
