Obituary for Fred J. Best
Frederick J. “Fred” Best, 91, of Snyder Village in Metamora, died on Sunday, February 5, 2012 at 7 p.m. at Snyder Village. Born April 3, 1920 in Peoria to Conrad and Anna Leuthner Best, he married Geraldine Bour on September 16, 1944 in Orlando. She survives. Also surviving are their children: Jeanne Griffis of Rockford, Frederick “Rick” Best of Peoria, Carol (Rob) Beer of Cuero, TX, Kathryn (Gregory) Schlink of Washington, Il, and Cynthia Letizia of Urbandale, Iowa. 12 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother. Fred was an Air Force Veteran of WWII, where he was awarded the Silver Star in October of 1942. He was also awarded a Distinguished Flying Cross. He was a salesman for Sherwin Williams for 25 years. He was a member of St. Philomena Catholic Church, where a Private Memorial Mass will be on Thursday, with Fr. David Richardson officiating. There will be no visitation. Burial of cremains will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in West Peoria. Memorials may be made to St. Philomena School Endowment Fund.
