Obituary for Franklin D. Brooks

Frank D. Brooks, 80, of Pekin, Illinois, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2021.

Frank was born February 20, 1941, in Peoria, Illinois, to Robert and Inda Loca (Branscum) Brooks and was one of 13 children. He was preceded in death by his parents and 6 brothers.

He met the love of his life, Joyce, in 1959, and they dated all through high school. They married in 1963 and together spent the next 58 years building a loving life and family. He is survived and will be greatly missed by his wife, Joyce (Jones) Brooks; daughters, Diane (Doug) Morr and Lisa (Tim) Grills; grandchildren, Jeremy Wright, Kelsey (Travis) Cox, Hannah Mangan, Maddison Jeter and Karrah Mangan; and great grandchildren, Wyatt, Olivia and Emerson. He also leaves behind 6 siblings, Vi Montgomery, Elizabeth Willy, Donna Griffith, Ron Brooks, Sandy Parks and Ed Brooks, and many nieces and nephews.

He loved his family and friends fiercely. He was kind and gentle and gave the best hugs. He never met a stranger and always had a smile and a friendly hello, and maybe even a joke, for all who crossed his path.

A jeweler in the Peoria area for 50 years, he spent his life creating and repairing treasured jewels well into retirement. He loved to sing and dance and spent 9 years leading his bride around the dance floor and taught hundreds of first time dancers how to do the Cotton Eyed Joe at the Moose Lodge as Bourbon Creek Dancers. He sang in the choir at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church for 20 years alongside Joyce and many friends.

He will be sadly missed and remembered by all as having a smile on his face, kindness and a song in his heart and a twinkle in his eyes.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 19, 2021, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, 2525 Skyway Road, Bartonville, Illinois, and a second short visitation at 10:00 a.m. and full mass at 10:30 on Thursday, May 20, 2021, followed by procession to Resurrection Cemetery, 7519 North Allen Road, Peoria, Illinois.

Memorials contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Tributes and condolences may be submitted to www.wrightandsalmon.com.
