Obituary for Frances T. (Babcock) Kemper

Frances T. (Babcock) Kemper 91, of Peoria entered into eternal life at 12:46 am on May 17, 2020 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center. With two of her children by her side and additional family members in the parking lot offering prayers and support during her final hours.
Frances was a long-time resident of Heddington Oaks in West Peoria where she enjoyed the ice cream shop daily, Bingo, and made bracelets during craft time that she distributed to family and friends. Prior to her being brought to the hospital ER she was at University Rehabilitation at Northmoor where she was transferred to on May 4, 2020
Frances was born on April 13, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois to Harry J. Babcock, Sr. and Nellie (Clift) Babcock. Even though she was raised in Chicago she had many relatives in the Peoria area and visited frequently.
Frances married Delbert C. Kemper on June 25, 1949 in Berwyn, Illinois. They raised five children and after 55 years of marriage Delbert preceded her in death along with her brother, one granddaughter, one grandson and three great-granddaughters.
She is survived by her children; Sr. Geraldine Kemper O.P., of Aurora, Nancy Kemper of Mackinaw, Vince (Bridget) Kemper of Bartonville, Gayle (Bill) Trowbridge and Tom (Becky) Kemper of Arizona.
She was a loving Grandmother of 18, Great-Grandmother of 28, and Great-Great-Grandmother of 1. She was also a de facto grandmother to our large extended “in-law” families.
Fran was a founding member of St. Vincent de Paul Church; where she participated in the Women’s Guild, Bowling and the Catholic Women’s League. She was especially proud of her work in the early days of St. Vincent’s where she assisted with the washing and ironing the Church linens along with cleaning the Chapel. She was deeply devoted to the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Rosary was her favorite prayer.
Fran was the former owner of the family business, Kemper Express, Inc. For many years she was a fixture in the foundations/lingerie department at Bergner’s Sheridan Village where her quick wit, ready smile and hardy laugh charmed co-workers and customers alike. She was seldom on time, but was always worth the wait, just like her beloved Cubs.
Faith and Family were the foundation and greatest joys of her life. It was a life well lived and our lives will never be the same without her.
A memorial Mass to celebrate her life will be at a later date. A private family burial will be held on Saturday, May 23, in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
Memorials in her honor may be made to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or Dominican Sisters Retirement Fund Sacred Heart Convent 1237 W. Monroe Springfield, IL, 62704.
