Obituary for Frances Farraher
Frances Kathleen Farraher of Peoria Heights died on Tuesday, June 28, 2022 at Proctor Hospital. She was born December 9, 1935, in Peoria, IL, to Thomas Shane Farraher and Winnifred Alice Sweeney Farraher. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, two brothers, and one niece. She is survived by four nieces, four nephews, six great-nieces, and two great-nephews all of whom she cherished.
She graduated from St. Patrick’s Grade School on Peoria’s South Side, and the Academy of Our Lady. She received a Bachelor of Arts from Fontbonne University in Missouri, and a Master of Arts Degree from Loyola University of Chicago. She was a teacher for more than fifty years, having started in St. Louis in 1956.
From 1953 to 1982, she was a member of the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Carondelet of St. Louis, Missouri. Known in religion as Sister Teresa Paul, she taught in elementary and secondary schools in Missouri, Georgia, and Colorado, as well as Academy of Our Lady/Spaulding Institute in Peoria from 1973 to 1980. Later, she taught in the Peoria Public Schools from 1981 to 2003. She then began to teach at Peoria Notre Dame High School, until she retired in 2010.
As a member of Saint Thomas parish in Peoria Heights, she served in many ministries, namely, Lector, Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist and Funeral Choir. A degreed member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians, she served both as a Peoria County Division Officer and Illinois State Officer. She also had been an active member of St. Thomas Women’s Guild; Friends of Clonmel; Beta Zeta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma International Teachers’ Society where she served several terms as secretary; Illinois Retired Teachers; Peoria Area Retired Teachers (PARTA); the Peoria Area Civic Women’s Federation first as representative of PARTA and later as a co-president of the organization. She was a former member of the St. Patrick’s Society of Peoria and the American Association of University Women.
She loved to travel, read, cook and listen to all genres of music, but above all, she loved her years of teaching.
She has donated her body for medical research. A memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, July 16th at 11:00 a.m.at Saint Thomas Church with Msgr. Jason Gray officiating. Please join us for a celebration of life at the Church one hour before the Mass. All attending are asked to wear GREEN.
