Obituaries
Frances Irene Heine, 94, passed away on Saturday, July 3, 2021 Grandview Special Care Center in Peoria. She was the widow of Bernard Joseph “Hank” Heine. They shared 67 years of marriage together.
“I was born on a warm, windy day in late March 1927. My mother was 10 days shy of turning 41.” Frances was delivered by a retired Dr who came by horse and buggy, requesting dinner and feed for his horse as payment. Born in Creal Springs near Marion, Illinois, she was the daughter of Thomas and Catherine (Zimmer) McCabe. She attended Academy of Our Lady in Peoria, finishing high school in Christopher, Illinois. Frances worked for Caterpillar where she met Bernard. After marrying, she stayed at home to raise her four children.
Frances and Bernard were married at St. Marks Catholic Church and were long-time members at Holy Family and later, St. Jude Parish. She loved gardening; she was able to take a stick and make it bloom. Frances and “Hank” vacationed in National Parks all over the west. Winter visits to Florida and spring cherry blossom festivals in Washington DC gave her much joy.
She is survived by her 4 children, Kathleen Gerlach, (Fred), Joseph Heine, Gregory Heine (Deborah), Anne Plunkett,11 grandchildren, and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Bernard Heine, her son-in-law Tony, her parents, and 8 siblings.
Frances will be remembered as a very independent thinker; her many caregivers loved her wit and firecracker personality. We wish to thank Independence Village and Grand View for their care and a special thanks to Kristi Pauli who shared a wonderful relationship with Frances.
The funeral mass will be held St. Jude Parish on Friday, July 9th, 2021 at 10:30am, with the visitation held the hour before, starting at 9:30am. Fr. Patrick Henehan will officiate and entombment will follow at Resurrection Mausoleum.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude’s Catholic church and school.
