Obituary for Eva Picl Stenger
Peoria- Eva Picl Stenger, age 96, of Kickapoo, passed away on Sunday morning November 26, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Nursing Home in Lacon, IL.
She was born July 11, 1921 in Peoria, a daughter of Louis and Emma (Herget) Picl.
Eva married Donald C. Stenger on November 30, 1943 in Peoria, IL. He preceded her in death on February 10, 2012.
Eva is survived by their three children: Sharon (Dan) Manning of Peoria, Ronald C. (Tammie) Stenger of Edwards, and Karen (Ron) Blevins of Gorman, CA.; three grandchildren: Bryan (Tricia), Scott (Jennifer) and Kevin (Monika) Manning; eleven great grandchildren: Kayla, Courtney, Kiersten, Brenden, Mackenzie, Marley, Lily, Josefine, Natalie, Veronika and Edelweiss Maria Manning. One sister, Lois Toft and one brother, Raymond Picl also survive.
Eva was an honor student at Woodruff High School, graduating in 1939, remaining part of the “Woodruff Girls of 1939”. One of her fondest memories was her bus trip to California with her lifelong friend, Georgie Camper.
Eva’s first job was at Dun and Bradstreet, later working at Pabst Brewing Co., and John Pearl Ins. Co.
Eva and Don were lifelong farmers. She liked to travel and enjoyed fishing with her family in Longville, MN. She also liked photography and dancing to Big Band music with Don. Spending time with family was most important to Eva.
Eva and Don were members of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Kickapoo and she was a past member of their Altar and Rosary Society. She was also a member of the Kickapoo 1 Unit of the Peoria County Home Makers Extension Group.
The family wants to especially thank the Sisters and staff at St. Joseph’s Nursing Home for their outstanding care and compassion for Eva.
Funeral Mass will be at 11 AM Saturday, December 2, 2017, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Kickapoo with Fr. Joseph Dondanville officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, December 1, 2017 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Parish Hall in Kickapoo, with a Recitation of the Rosary at 3:15 p.m. A one hour Visitation will be prior to the mass on Saturday.
Burial will be in St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Kickapoo.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Church in Kickapoo or St. Joseph’s Nursing Home in Lacon, IL.
