MORTON ~ Eugene (Gene) Norman Venegoni, 95, of Morton, passed away at 8:46 p.m. Saturday, September 3, 2022 at Unity Point Health Methodist in Peoria, surrounded by his loving family.
Gene was born on February 9, 1927 in Herrin, Illinois to Angelo and Vincenza (Berra) Venegoni. He was the youngest of eight children and is the last surviving member of his immediate family.
Gene graduated from Herrin High School and the University of Illinois. He met the love of his life, Marjorie Watson, and married her on December 26, 1955. He spent his career as a successful pharmaceutical salesman and a district sales manager, primarily for Hoffman-La-Roche Laboratories, retiring in 1989. He was awarded top sales manager eighteen times. He was well-respected in his job and was a mentor to many salespeople. He was known for his preceptor skills and motivational spirit, encouraging his salesmen to excel in the industry. After his retirement, he continued to do consulting work.
He was a veteran of the United States Army. He enlisted in 1944 at the age of seventeen to serve in World War II and later served in the Korean Conflict. He was a devout Catholic, devoted husband, brother, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a kind and generous man of true integrity that everyone enjoyed. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Illini fan. He loved his family wholeheartedly and was proud of each one of them.
He is survived by his loving wife Marjorie, and his six children, Angie (Steve) Kouri of Peoria, John (Claudia) Venegoni of Estero, Florida, Mary Venegoni of Washington, Tony (Dr. Maureen Lillich) Venegoni of Morton, Eugenia “Gina” (Ken) Kouri of Peoria, and Joanna “Jo” (Garry) Finch of Morton; sixteen grandchildren, Dr. Annie (Dr. Khalid Azzam) Kouri, Steve Kouri, II, Mark (Danielle) Venegoni, Jenna (Mitch) Herzog, David (Kara) Venegoni, Luke (Eleia) Venegoni, Elizabeth Venegoni, Bryan Venegoni, Michael Kouri, Matthew Kouri, Benjamin Kouri, Katherine Finch, Claire Finch, John Finch, Olivia Finch and Isabella Finch; and eight great-grandchildren, Adam, Sammy and Lyla Azzam, Gabriella, Nicholas and Luca Venegoni, and Theodore and Josephine Herzog.
Gene’s parents, two sisters and five brothers preceded him in death, all of whom he loved dearly.
Visitation will be at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Morton, on Sunday, September 11, 2022 from 4:00pm – 6:00pm with recitation of the rosary at 3:30pm.
His funeral Mass will be at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Morton, on Monday, September 12, 2022 at 12:00pm with visitation prior to the funeral from 10:30am -11:45am. Monsignor Gerald T. Ward will officiate. Entombment will follow in Resurrection Mausoleum in Peoria.
