Obituary for Ethel Mary Coletta
Ethel Mary Coletta, 91, of Peoria, IL, died on Monday, February 28, 2022, at GrandView Senior Living. The Coletta Family has the highest respect and appreciation for the staff at GrandView and their compassionate, attentive care to our Mother. We are also so grateful to Unity Point Hospice, for the help and friendship they gave to our Mother.
A native Chicagoan, born on March 15, 1930, Ethel Mary raised her family in Peoria, IL. Ethel Mary worked for 33 years at Naturally Yours Health Food Store, which later became Sunrise Health Food Store. She was a member of St. Philomena Catholic Church and headed the St. Philomena Bridge Club for 38 years.
She married Ralph J. Coletta (deceased) on November 19, 1949 and joyfully raised seven children. Ethel’s family includes Jeanie Caskey (Barry) Stortz of Peoria, IL, Marianne (Pete) Hoener of Charlotte, NC, Suzanne Coletta (Vince) Kennedy of Barrington, IL, Joe (Deb) Coletta of Highland Park, IL, Bob (Val) Coletta of Peoria, IL, Shelly (Dan) Smith of Peoria, IL and one son-in law EJ (Sara) Joers of Chicago, IL and one brother, Lieutenant Colonel Lewis Meyers of Boiling Springs, PA.
Ethel Mary’s daughter, Renee Coletta Joers of Downers Grove, IL, her grandson, Adam Jay Ahitow of Las Vegas, her brother Ralph Meyers of Chicago, IL and her sister Ruth Meyers of Peoria, IL all preceded her in death.
An extraordinary and elegant woman, she was a loving role model, mother, adoring grandmother, great grandmother, and a friend to many. Ethel Mary never knew a stranger.
A visitation will be at Wright & Salmon Mortuary on Thursday, March 3, 2022 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM. A celebration of life Mass, with Fr. Donald Henderson officiating, will be said at St Philomena Catholic Church on Friday, March 4, 2022 at 10:30 AM, followed by entombment at Resurrection Mausoleum.
Donations may be made in lieu of flowers, in her memory to St Philomena Church.
