Obituary for Eloise E. "Betty" Stenger

Peoria- Eloise E. “Betty” Stenger, 87, of the Apostolic Christian Home of Eureka, died Saturday, July 5, 2008 at 8:40 p.m. at the home. Born June 17, 1921 in Peoria to Floyd and Etta Best Chambers, she married Norman W. Bennett on July 3, 1944 in Kickapoo. He died December 16, 1962 in Springfield. She later married Paul A. Stenger on April 25, 1980 in Peoria. He survives, along with 4 Sons: Robert (Judy) Bennett of Carolina, RI, David (Brenda) Bennett of Kearney, MO., Joseph (Debbie) Bennett of Lathrop, MO., and Gary (Wendy) Bennett of Knoxville, TN. 4 Daughters: Judy (Tim) Sponsler of Morton, Nancy (Wayne) Lambert of Alpharetta, GA., Becky Cummins of Sylvania, OH., and Mary (Jim) Schroeder of Franklin, TN. 2 Stepsons: Paul (Cathy) Stenger of Peoria, and Marty (Karen) Stenger of Brimfield. 1 Step daughter: Bonnie (Craig) Tiezzi of Brimfield. 2 Sisters: Helen Kyle of Trivoli, and Marianna (Richard) Ivey of Edwards. 24 Grandchildren, 6 Step-Grandchildren and 25 Great Grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers. Betty worked as a cashier at Kroger for many years, retiring in 1983. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles. Eloise spent her life being a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. A Funeral Mass will be on Thursday, 10 a.m. at her church, with Franciscan Friars officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wright & Salmon Mortuary, with a rosary at 7:45 p.m. Further visitation will be one half hour prior to the mass on Thursday. Burial will be in St. Patrick Cemetery in Kickapoo. Memorials may be made to Apostolic Christian Home in Eureka, or the Central Illinois Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.
