EDELSTEIN - Ellen Stanton Keyster, 64, of Edelstein, passed away at 12:47 p.m., Tuesday, August 6, 2013, at home with her family by her side. Ellen was born September 29, 1948, in Peoria, the daughter of Joseph and Eleanor (Schulte) King. She was married to her high school sweetheart and soul mate Richard “Rick” Gordon Keyster for 42 years. Ellen was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her loving husband Rick and their four sons, Andy and his wife Traci of Channahon, IL, Eric and his wife Tracy of Geneva, Switzerland, Rob and his wife Tai of Edelstein, and Adam and his wife Jaime of Edelstein; 11 grandchildren, Brandon, Lauren and Kaylee of Channahon, Elizabeth, Elana and Eleny of Geneva, and Kaleb, Lehua, Kekoa, Matayo and Mila of Edelstein; her sister, Mary Jo Sheets of Greenwood, SC; and her brother, Joel King of El Paso, TX. Her parents preceded her in death. Ellen graduated with a BS in elementary education from EIU. She had a personally rewarding career as an elementary school teacher for 34 years and touched the lives of hundreds of young children. Most of those years were spent in Princeville School District with a few at St. Edwards. Her students adored her and excelled under her guidance. Ellen was a member of St. Jude Parish since 1974. In retirement, Ellen and Rick split their time between their homes in Edelstein and Naples, FL. She loved the outdoors. She was an avid reader and an excellent cook, but above all her family was her life. Ellen and Rick exemplified true love and a commitment to each other. This devotion serves as an example for her children and grandchildren. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 12, 2013, at St. Jude Roman Catholic Church in Dunlap. Rev. Patrick Henehan will officiate. Visitation will be held from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m., Sunday, August 11 at the church. An additional visitation will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday also at the church. Interment will be held in Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria, followed by a luncheon at her son’s home to celebrate her life. Wright & Salmon Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of memorial contributions, please spend special time with your family. Express to your family how much they mean to you and Ellen’s memory will be honored. “Sometimes it’s better to put love into hugs than to put it into words.” Tributes and condolences may be submitted to
