Obituary for Ellen Grawey Roberts

PEORIA-Ellen Grawey Roberts, 53, of St. Louis, Missouri and formerly of Peoria, Illinois and Cleveland, Ohio, passed away at 12:50 p.m. on Sunday, July 26, 2009, surrounded by her family at their home in Scottsdale, Arizona. She was born on October 21, 1955, in Peoria to Charles and Rita McLinden Grawey. She graduated from The Academy-Spalding High School in 1973 and from Eastern Illinois University in 1977. She married Kevin Roberts on October 1, 1977 in Peoria. Ellen is survived by her husband of St. Louis, Missouri; her father and his wife of Peoria; two sons, Sean and Ryan, and daughter, Nicole, all of Scottsdale, Arizona. She also leaves behind a brother, Chuck, and sister, Janet, their families, aunts and uncles, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends. She was preceded in death by her mother. She lived in Peoria for 37 years working as a Medical Technologist at OSF St. Francis Medical Center for 9 years. She lived in Cleveland for 16 years. She recently spent much of her time at their home in Scottsdale, Arizona. She was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Peoria Heights. She was the Cheerleading Coach for 6 years at Gilmour Academy in Gates Mills, Ohio and volunteered at Ronald McDonald House for 16 yrs and Gilmour Academy for 10 years. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister and friend, and her energy and love of life were tremendous. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 31, 2009, at St. Thomas Church with Msgr. William Watson officiating. Visitation will be from 5-8:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Church with recitation of the rosary at 8:30 p.m. Additional visitation will be one hour before the mass at the Church. Entombment will be in Resurrection Mausoleum following the funeral mass. Wright & Salmon Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ireland Cancer Center at University Hospitals Case Medical Center, 11100 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44106.
